The Asian lion lives in India in the province of Gir, the last sanctuary of this endangered species. There are only 300 individuals still living in the wild and its population is much lower than that of the African lion. Gir males have a smaller mane which makes their ears very visible and they have a ventral fold that is absent in African lions.
